For more than 10 years, Pastor Mark Byrd put his call to be a church leader on the back burner, feeling God wanted him to wait. Instead he worked in the corporate world for Colgate-Palmolive as a sales representative while doing ministry outreach on the side and waiting patiently for the Lord to reveal His timing.
In 1986 Mark and his wife, Donna, moved to Atlanta from Macon, GA. A friend invited them to attend a church that had just started with five families, and did not yet have a pastor, called "Calvary Chapel." That night they unexpectedly asked him to be their pastor. After teaching for a couple of months, the Byrd's decided that this was where they needed to be and in January 1987, they started regular Calvary Chapel Gwinnett services on Sunday mornings in Lawrenceville.
Pastor Mark and Donna, along with their four children Jeremiah, Grace, Rachel and Hannah, reside in Talmo, Georgia.
Pastor Craig Smith and his wife Linda moved to Atlanta from Indiana in 1982 and attended Lilburn Alliance Church in Lilburn, GA for nearly fifteen years where they were actively involved in ministry outreach. However, in 1996 Craig and Linda (along with their two children Kimberly and Aaron) sensed God "nudging" them into new ministry areas and joined the family of Believers here at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett. After serving as an elder for a number of years, Craig became a part-time church leader in August of 2003 and was ordained as an Assistant Pastor in March 2005.
Craig oversees both Worship and Media ministries, as well as various administrative functions. He and his family live in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Pastor Darrell Pruitt joined as a church leader in 2007, but is not new to Calvary Chapel Gwinnett. As an ordained pastor since 1993 who has taught at churches throughout the South, Darrell has effectively stepped-in for Pastor Mark when called away. Darrell, formerly the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Loganville, brings with him years of experience to serve here at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett in the areas of teaching and discipleship.
He and his wife Vicki gave their hearts to Jesus in 1983, and along with their children Josh and Michelle, reside in Grayson, Georgia.
Pastor Matthew McGoldrick felt God's clear call into ministry during his junior year of high school in southern California. At age 17, he attended Calvary Chapel School of Evangelism and then worked for a Christian youth camp. After that, he attended Calvary Bible College where he ministered three times a week in the Children's and Teen ministries of the local church. During that time he went on several mission trips to Mexico where God burdened his heart for missions. This led to a two-year internship at Calvary Chapel's missions-focused Bible College in Austria. While there, he ministered to college-aged students by teaching classes, doing practical ministry and leading outreach teams all over Europe.
It was during an outreach to Scotland that God called Matthew to be a missionary in Glasgow. In 2001 at the age of 23, he followed God's call to plant a church in Scotland. After serving there for three years, God brought Matthew an amazing wife from Alabama. Matthew and his wife Jenny then served the Lord together in Scotland for seven more years. During that time they had two wonderful girls, Scarlet and Eden. In 2011 God raised up a Scottish couple to take over the church in Glasgow and called Matthew and Jenny to join the ministry here at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett.
Pastor Victor Summerour is originally from Gwinnett County, where he and his wife Lydia still reside. They have two children Anthony and Erica.
Victor has been a born-again believer for 12+ years. Since then, the Lord has given him a strong love for His word and a passion to know Him better.
As the Youth Ministry Middle School pastor here at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett, Victor clings to Luke 23:31 that says: "For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?" His heart is to cultivate the soul of these Middle School students while they are young so that they may know Jesus at an early age and live for Him the rest of their lives.
Pastor Jonathan Delgado came to know the Lord at a very young age when his parents led him in the sinner's prayer. However, it wasn't until August of 1997 (when he was 14), that he truly dedicated his life to serving Christ.
Soon after his graduation from Toccoa Falls College in May 2004, Jonathan came to Calvary Chapel Gwinnett as our staff Youth Ministry Pastor and was ordained as an Assistant Pastor in March 2005. He now primarily oversees the High School Ministry and related events and outreaches.
Jonathan and his wife Maria, along with their daughter Elena, make their home in Auburn, Georgia.
Stephanie Clark has been on staff since February, 2001 as an valuable asset to Calvary Chapel Gwinnett church leaders. She is the person who works behind the scenes to make sure that everything runs smoothly and coordinates ministry outreach programs, promotes events, and keeps Pastor Mark's calendar. She is also responsible for the church bulletins, the church directory, and administrative support for Pastor Mark.
Stephanie was saved at an early age but, like many, rebelled against the Lord in her teens. She returned to the Lord around age 30 with a passion to be a disciple and serve the Lord to her fullest.
She and her husband Ray live in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Teresa has been a valuable part of the Calvary Chapel Gwinnett staff since November, 2002, overseeing the Children's Ministry outreach including Nursery/Toddler, Sunday Morning and Wednesday evening classes, VBS, and teacher training.
Teresa is married to husband Scott and lives along with their three children Dalton, Colette and Jeremiah, in Snellville, Georgia.
Joan serves as Administrative Assistant in several ministry outreach areas here at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett, but with a primary focus on overseeing the Biblical Counseling Ministry.
Having moved to Gwinett County from Florida in the summer of 2004, Joan has led specialized women's small group Bible studies and assisted with biblical counseling both here at Calvary Chapel Gwinnett and the Lawrenceville Crisis Pregnancy Center. She and her husband Fred, as well as two daughters Eileen and Christina, reside in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
